Milgard mortise lock for patio door won’t come out by: Rachna
I have the same issue too as of today. I cannot wiggle the mortise lock out of the Milgard sliding glass patio door. The opening for the mortise lock looks to be too small to take out. Do i need to replace the door? It is in good shape otherwise. Installed in 1995.
The problem started with the lever not working and thus i could not lock the patio door. Then suddenly the mortise’s double hooks seem to fall back into the mortise lock and now won’t budge. The lever is not able to budge them.
The width of the opening is 3/4". And the length of the mortise lock is 4 3/4" measuring from the center of the hole on top of the mortise to the center of the hole at the bottom of the mortise.
This is my first time doing this.

Vinyl slider mortise removal by: Neon 24Anonymous
I have the vinyl sliders and the mortise lock does not come out through the opening. Do I have to remove the vinyl, terrible design!! I hope someone has some insight for me on this. I just can’t understand why this was designed this way, to keep DIYER’S from doing it.
