Help - Can't Replace Screen Sliding Door Wheels

I have a sliding screen door and the bottom wheels need to be replaced. I decided to do all of them. After watching multiple YouTube DIY videos, figured it should be an easy job. But, alas, it doesn't look like so after all.

On the initial inspection of my door, I realized I don't have a clamp part around the wheels which was in a lot of the YouTube clips. That didn't stop me, and figured if I can get the wheel mechanism out, then I can find the replacement parts fairly easy.

I unscrewed 2 screws (red arrows in the 2 pics), loosened the other screw (green in 1 pic), and now I don't know how to even take the mechanism out. I tried loosening it with a #1 screwdriver, but it doesn't come out.

The screen door was from the a manufacturer named Mr.Glass.

Do you know how to go about replacing these? Are there any YouTube videos or tutorials or guides somewhere? I'd be happy to buy the merchandise from another website if they have the supplies as well.

Thank you so much!

Help - Can't Replace Screen Sliding Door Wheels (cont'd)
by: Michael

I screwed back in the 2 screws. Then I pulled the white housing holding the wheel out. As I pulled the wheel out a spring flew out. I have no idea how to place it back in, and not sure it's purpose, but I believe it's needed to help the wheel make traction with the tracks.

Here's a couple pics ->

I took a couple pics of the other wheel on the opposite side which was untouched ->

Prying the wheel out was easy, but now it's figuring out how to continue the repair.

Any help you can offer is most appreciated! I'm hoping I don't have to take apart the frame because I have no idea how to do that.

Hi Michael;

If you are lucky you should not need top take any of the screws out to remove the plastic wheels.

You need to loosen the roller adjusting screw, but not remove it. Then use a flat blade screwdriver to lever out the roller enough where you can pop the plastic wheel out.

These rollers are very similar to these Canadian screen door rollers that I made a YouTube Video about.

The problem you might have is the side pieces that are holding the plastic wheel on may break off when you pry them apart to remove the wheel.

Especially if the door is 20 years old and the plastic has become very brittle from age and the Florida Sun.

Its easy to get the rollers, I have them if you cant find locally.

The screws you took out actually hold the corners in place, and if the plastic breaks when you take the rollers out you will need to take the whole frame apart to get the roller assembly out. Just like in the video.

The only difference with yours is the company used 2 screws in each corner instead of relying on friction to keep these roller assemblies tight. Not a bad idea actually.
