Cant get the latch out of my sliding door

Whatever controls the tension on the latch on our slidind door broke. We tried to get the lock mechanism out but it is recessed behind the door panel. How do we get it out.

Use a steel coat hanger or a pointed awl or any kind of stiff wire to hook the latch to the out position.

Grab hold of it with pliers, locking pliers are best but just make sure you dont let go of the lock, it will fall down into the door.

Take the last screw out and fish the lock out by hanging on to the pliers and moving the lock up and down until it come out.

Worst case, If the lock does fall down inside the door just leave it there, you need a prime line E2014 and just about every home depot has them.

Theres a spring inside the lock that always breaks so the latch gets stuck in one position
