Broken sliding door lock knob

Vanguard left hand patio door handle turn knob broken

I replaced my latch recently on sliding door and it was working fine until the door lock knob started to spin and eventually broke with the door being left in place locked. I don't know how to get this off so I can replaced it. The door is locked and there is not way for me to unlock it. Any suggestions welcome.

Just updating and I appreciate your help. I did purchase the replacement part you suggested and it works perfectly. I ended up prying open from top with screwdriver and hammer until it broke from top so I could access the back of it and pull up on levers to open the door so I can unscrew it from sliding door as it broke in locked position. I can post pictures of it to show what exactly happened if it helps someone else. I can also email you the pictures.

I really appreciate your help and insight. I need help to get to those screws to un-assemble it as it is stuck in a locked position and I can't push the door open. I also tried to get behind the lock it self by prying it away from door but it seems impossible. I think you would know what I am talking about but am happy to send pictures if needed.

Hi Gurdeep;

You have a patio door made by Vanguard a window and door company thats very popular in California.

The handle they use is made by RotoFasco and always has problems because a small plastic lever inside the mechanism breaks.

Yours is the first I have seen with a broken knob but its only held on with a soft steel rivet so it does not take much for it to work loose and eventually come off.

Unfortunately you have to buy a kit with both inside and outside handles plus the lock. Its not possible just to buy the inside handle.
