1959 aluminum custom screen door for patio

Hi there,
My husband and I bought a condo in Denver last year. The place was built in 1959 and while the apartment has been completely remodeled, the one original feature is the sliding glass patio doors and aluminum frame sliding screen doors. These are big screen doors, 8ft tall and 6.5 feet wide. I think it's safe to assume that they were custom made for the building, as every condo has these same doors.

When we bought the place the screens were in desperate need of repair. My husband, assuming that we could find the supplies at the local hardware store, tore out the old screens and spline, which was flat, grey and seemed to adhere to the frame with an adhesive. He tossed out all the old materials, so unfortunately I can't show you a photo of it as you have suggested in your blog.

What I did provide instead was a photo of the frames/groves where the spline would go. I'm hoping with this information you might be able to help us so that we can find the right spline to replace our screens with.

Thank you for your time.

Many years ago I had to fix a few of these old doors. I believe they were made by Arcadia. They use a wide flat grey pvc spline.

I still have the roll of material i used for those doors. See the picture i added. The width is just a little bigger than 7/16" but its soft and will squeeze down smaller when you roll it in

See the front page of www.fixingscreens.com and send me an email so i can send you pricing and get your shipping details. The email address is at the bottom of the home page.
